Moisturizing Treatments for Girls

January 15 2020

Natural hair can have the tendency to become brittle and prone to breakage, making it difficult to achieve significant length. One way to help hair grow and prevent breaking is to receive nourishing moisturizing treatments. Read on to learn more about what moisturizing treatments are and their benefits. With Martin Luther King, Jr. Day coming up, we've also included a list of events around the Atlanta area at the end of this blog.

What is a moisturizing treatment?
In the simplest form, moisturizing treatments are products that penetrate the hair shaft to improve hair's ability to absorb and hold moisture. However, different hair types will affect which moisturizing treatment works best for your child's hair.

Benefits of moisturizing treatments
No matter what type of moisturizing treatment works for your child's hair, the ultimate goal is to leave hair moisturized and healthy even after it is washed and dried. Properly moisturized hair will be stronger and experience less breakage than dry, brittle hair, promoting growth and curl definition.

Types of Moisturizing Treatments
Hair comes in many wonderful types and textures and different hydration treatments will work better for certain types of hair.

Liquid, Oil, Cream (LOC) Treatment. First, and most importantly, a water-based product or simply water is applied to the hair. Water has the power to significantly moisturize hair, however, the next two steps are needed to ensure the hair retains the moisture. When applying the next step, oil, it is important to ensure there are no allergen concerns, common oils used for hair moisturizing are olive, avocado, and coconut-based. Finally, the cream application ensures the water and oil are locked into the strands, leaving hair with a beautiful sheen.

Steaming Treatment. This method is a great alternative for those who do not want to have a lot of products on their child's hair. Steam is applied either by a handheld device or a hooded steamer. Steaming hair allows water more time to be absorbed into the hair strands, leaving hair feeling and looking healthier and more moisturized. Steaming also helps open up pores on the scalp, reducing hair growth restriction!
