5 Winter Hair Care Tips for Curly Hair

Winter is here and with it comes cold frigid air and dry indoor heating. As seasons change, your child’s hair routine may have to change a little to maintain and protect their curly hair from the harsh elements.

Here are 5 winter hair care tips to keep their curl pattern in great shape and their hair healthy.

Take care with hats. With it being cold out, especially at night, your child may be wearing a wool hat or scarf around their head to keep them warm. However, these can rub against and pull delicate curls, causing damage or breakage to the hair over time. Your little ones can still wear hats by investing in a satin or silk-lined hat that will alleviate the friction against the hair. It can be as simple as using a silk scarf wrapped around their head before the wool beanie.

Wash less often or at night. We all know how hectic the mornings can be getting out of the house. Leaving the warmth of our house into the cold, damp air can cause your hair to freeze or break if the hair is still wet at all. By washing their hair less often, or doing it at night when they’ll be in all night, will help to protect their hair from the cold winter air.

Deep condition more often. Indoor heated air can dry out everyone’s hair! To combat this winter dryness, deep condition your little one’s hair with a deep conditioner or hair mask to help hold in moisture.
