Caring for Your Child’s Natural Hair

At Just4Girls, we love that feeling we get when our clients walk out of our salon loving their natural hair, and we want them to keep feeling good about their hair between their visits to our salon. Caring for your child’s natural hair means using the right products and tools as well as washing and conditioning properly so your little girl’s hair stays healthy and strong.

Haircare products. Natural hair needs special care because it needs lots of moisturizing to keep it soft and free of tangles and frizz. Only use products that are naturally formulated from gentle ingredients and hydrating oils – many drugstore brands contain harsh ingredients that dry out hair and leave it unmanageable. When shopping for your little girl’s hair care products, look for formulas designed especially for natural hair that do not contain parabens and other harsh ingredients.

At Just4Girls, we are excited to provide an assortment of Bubbly Beautiful hair care products formulated especially for young girls with natural hair. They contain nourishing provitamin formulas and natural oils and gentle botanical conditioners to leave your little girl’s hair silky soft.

Combs and brushes. The right tools are important, too, like wide-tooth combs or picks and soft boar-bristle brushes that are gentle on hair. Fine-tooth combs and plastic brushes can tear at your little girl’s natural hair, causing breakage and even hair loss. Invest in high-quality tools designed especially for natural hair to keep your little girl’s hair healthy.

Styling. Drugstore styling products like gel, mousse, and hairspray usually contain drying ingredients. Moisture is the key to soft, healthy natural hair, so use lotions and creams like Bubbly Beautiful All-Natural Hair Pomade with Lemongrass & Vitamin E Oils to style your little girl’s hair. Styling is easier when hair is well-hydrated, so try using leave-in conditioners before styling and you’ll notice the difference

Shampooing. Most of us shampoo too frequently, and that’s true for many little girls as well. Shampoo only once or twice a week, but condition with moisturizers or natural oils regularly. When you shampoo too often or use water that’s too hot, it can dry out your little girl’s hair and strip away the natural oils that keep her hair soft and healthy.

Braids. Even though braids are a low-maintenance style, your little girl’s braids still need care. Ask your stylist at Just4Girls how to best care for your little girl’s braids. Braid care can vary by the style you choose, but in most cases, braids should be moisturized at least twice a week. If you have a dry scalp, we recommend it every other day. Hair oil or pomade works best to keep your hair and scalp moisturized.
